    RACING YACHT
    There are references to yacht
racing in Pepys Diary, and there
has been racing in pleasure craft
    for centuries. The foundation of
what is now the Royal Yacht
Squadron at Cowes in 1815 and
its first regatta in 1826 were the
    great landmarks in modern yacht
    racing history. Since then there
    has seen constant rivalry in
    designing and building, and the
racing yacht of the present day
    shows extreme perfection of
    workmanship. Lord Warings
    successful 'White Heather',
which is illustrated, is a fine
    specimen of the cutter.
