  • Condition: Used condition on both books and electrodes. Condition of books is shown in pics. Electrodes were stored in shed with moisture for a while. I don't know if it affects anything. From research I did, all you have to do is heat them in oven slightly to remove any moisture. I taped up the boxes because the boxes were falling apart.

    Description

The types of electrodes are listed on the boxes. The boxes are sealed shut with tape. They were coming apart, so I tapes the boxes up completely to seal them. The storage was not that great an environment, and had moisture as they were stored in a shed for years, but these are not like cellulose coated electrodes with a fluxing (anti-oxidizing agent) like with 6010, 7012 SMAW etc. Basically, nothing on these except thin copper coating over the carbon, so as far as I know, the storage isn't critical.
I think the number of rods in the boxes is 95 or 96. I used 3 or 4 in projects over the years. Remember, the arc produced by the arc gouger you build in the book is bright. You also need to build the resistor element and wire it to the gouger or else the breaker trips immediately. It's like a shade 12 I used. Shade 10 or 9 not recommended.
These carbon rods are used for many uses that include arc gouging for gouging out defective welds and for building the devices in the books. A common use with EDM is to drill out holes of stripped bolts in extremely hardened metal that cannot be drilled out with normal drill bits. The metal hardness is irrelevant with the EDM method. What matters is the conductivity. If it's conductive, EDM works. If it's not conductive, EDM doesn't work. With the EDM, it uses an oil bath, so the ARC is submerged.
