Antique National Cash Register Co General Store Customer Receipt Credit Box. There is a note in the COD box that is on a receipt with a store name: PURITAN CONFECTIONERY COMPANY, 831 FRANKLIN STREET, READING PA. There is a phone number printed on the receipt under the company name: 2-5514.How cool is this?!?! These are definitely scarcer and harder to find. These were used in old stores, usually general stores, and customers would have an account on credit. The boxes held cards/receipts that kept track of purchases and payments. This particular box has roots in Philadelphia, PA. Check out the names of businesses and individuals who had accounts at this store. Look at some of the addresses. Awesome piece for anyone who collects and especially cool for those of us in the area!
It has 2 jointed doors that open and close fluidly. One opens up and the other opens down. On the inside there is a set of files exposed by opening the top door, then there is an equal set of files behind the lower door. The bottom set is set behind a glass door (small surface chip in corner) and in the old days you would need a key to access the glass door to get to the files. The lock is open and I don’t have the key. Likely one to be found on eBay. When you lift a selected file tray at the top, the duplicate bottom tray moves as well.
The box is 26”L x 16”W x 10 1/2”H. It weighs approximately 125lbs.
Could be used to organize and store photos, letters, documents, recipes, etc. Or, use it at your shop or store for it’s intended purpose. No one is running off with this thing.
